The old men vigorously chattered about the state of politics. One said, “The price is too steep to support such a program! The system will collapse!”

As Clemons responded to the statement as he poured more brandy for the old man with sharp, blue eyes. “Without it, the cost will be human lives.”

The old man with sharp eyes looked up from his leather chair, as if he noticed his long-time servant for the very first time. “So, then, do you claim to be educated on the matter, then?” he asked.

Clemons humbly shook his head. “Well-traveled, I suppose, Master Livingston.”

The man nodded uncertainly. “Very well. Very well,” he muttered. In the morning, no sign of Clemons remained.
